Do you know the maximum temperature the water in your shower and bathtub should be? More on that in a minute…
Today we rebuilt the temperature control valve for a shower and bathtub.
Have you noticed that as some bathtubs and showers age, you need to turn the valve further and further to get the water to the temperature you are used too? Then, eventually, the water never gets hot enough. This is a sign the mixing valve inside the controls may need to be repaired or replaced.
Sometimes this job requires taking the valve apart, removing the original mixing valve, and inserting a new one. Other times, the work may be more complicated.
Having the right water temperature in your shower and tub is critical. If the water is not hot enough, you may have a problem with your mixing valve. There could also be a problem with your water heater.
One thing to be very careful of is to never, ever have your water temperature setting on the water heater exceed 120-130 degrees fahrenheit. This can be very dangerous, as it can scald someone, particularly a baby or child.
If your water temperature is too hot, a licensed plumber can adjust the temperature on your water heater to make sure it does not exceed 120-130 degrees.
